Memoirs of a Sea Scout: Entry 009

It's gathering season. All the gatherings are coming thick and fast. It was a great gathering just now although we didn't win the best overall trophy. Everyone thought we should have won but we didn't. It happens sometimes. Like Forrest Gump's momma likes to say, "Life's like a box of chocolates. You'll never know what you'll get." Even when you are clearly the best in every category, you still end up losing to some lame group all because one of their leader is very involved with the chairperson of the gathering. Dumb girl. She doesn't know she'll get dumped soon after the gathering!

Next up is a gathering we used to be favourites to win overall. Why not when we've been winning the gathering year in year out without fail? That winning streak all but ended during that eventful day when our leaders decided to make a fool of themselves. Who doesn't know that story when seniors keep passing it down to us juniors generation after generation? Whatever the circumstances, it shouldn't have happened. Well, shit happens and all my friends abandoned me by joining another uniformed body but do you see me complaining?

It's a good thing we are told of such stories. We all can learn a lot from history. It can be a monumental success or a disastrous failure, anything is worth learning from. It helps us newer generations learn faster and avoid pitfalls along the way. Actually, we don't see that very often anymore. Maybe ex-scouts are more busy nowadays or they are no longer interested.

Whatever it is, I hope they will still continue to support us. Having someone provide a guiding light is always better than walking alone in the dark. Don't you think so?
