Let The Games Begin...

Haven't you heard?!? CTC05 is here!!! This year's Combined Training Camp has begun with earnest at Coronation Camp despite the heavy downpour. No amount of rain or shine will be able to dampen the spirits of the mighty sea scouts of 8gts and everyone involved in this camp is trying their very best to put up a good show. After a day of precamp, a first for many of the campers since they had been so used to the three days of precamp in recent years, the competition is getting really intense. I was informed that competition between the patrols are quite healthy and still very much alive although two patrols have taken an early lead. There are a few patrols trailing behind but they don't seem to be bothered much by their progress, or lack of it. They seem to be confident in putting up a strong enough challenge and give the two leading patrols a run for their money.

Eye-catching ships, mind-boggling landscapes, incomprehensible structures, beautiful floats, creative logbooks, colourful banners and the like can be seen at the camp with some very exceptional and magnificient work done on a couple of our trademark ships. A touch of creativity is evident in the gadgetry although in such an early stage and one wonders how grand they will be once they are completed.

Campfire Nite, the summit of CTC05 and the most anticipated event of the year (even more than King Kong and Chronicles of Narnia?!?) will be on Sunday (18/12/2005) at 2000hrs. Go early as it is expected to be jam-packed with people despite the rain. Seats are limited and if this year's Campfire Nite is anything like last year's (with ~500 visitors) you would want to be early. With exotic dances and the most lawak sketches promised for this year's Campfire Nite, how can you forgive yourself for missing this event? I know Camp Chief ASSL Simon Loh will definitely not forgive you! (News is he might be the MC again this year...)

All these are waiting for you at this year's Combined Training Camp. The best thing is, this year's Combined Training Camp falls on a weekend! So what are you waiting for? Take a trip to Coronation Camp and see the splendor of CTC05 now! A word of caution though, bring along an umbrella and mind your step. Be prepared for a muddy experience. :P

Rest assued, we will try to bring coverage of CTC05 to those of you who are outstation/overseas and not able to visit the camp through photos, audio and video files. Check back here regularly for updates.

How To Tie Knots...

Learn how to tie some knots at this useful and interesting website - I Will Knot. Information at the site includes simple description of the knots, tying instructions including short 'videos' and the image of the knots.

The Clock's Ticking...

CTC 2005 is drawing closer every minute. How are the patrols faring? Has anyone taken an early lead? Is it turning out to be a close fight? Who will eventually be crowned overall champions? Just a dozen days to go before the camp starts. Yet another chapter will be written in 8gts history and that chapter begins in 12 days 9 hours 1 min 25 sec....I mean 23 sec....I mean 20 sec....oh screw it...you look at the counter yourself!

Blaze... Fusion... Sapphire... Traxex... Xothique... Zeuryx... make us proud!!!

GOOD LUCK to you all and may it be a memorable camp!

Combined Training Camp 2005

There has been slight changes for the combined training camp 05 details.
Date :17th -20th December 2005
Venue :Coronation Camping Grounds
Report In :0800hrs (17th December 2005)
Dismissal :1730hrs (20th December 2005)
Attire :FSSU
Camp Fees :RM30(guides/rangers)
RM40(scouts)
Pre-camp :16th December 2005

The slight changes were made due to certain problems. Our original date was actually 16-19dec,all of a sudden,Mr. Ong Beng Soon told us tht he used our date for a national camp named Goodwill Camp which includes scouts from other countries such as singapore, thailand, etc. We had no other choice but to shift our camp venue to PFS field .After some preparations were made , he told us that he postponed his camp.in the end , we used coronation as our school field is not a suitable place for camping.
For this year, there will be only one day precamp as the new rules were stated only 5 days are allowed to use coronation. So,PL's are allowed to prepare their platforms before hand.
Exco's of 8GTS would like to wish those form 5 and upper 6 sea scouts all the best in their SPM and STPM.

Congratulations to those patrols which did really well and to the rest ,it's still not over,it's just the begining. So, don't give up and strive till the last second.Overall, each patrol has at least one item selected for campfire but there's still room for improvement.
Now...there's only one month left to CTC 2005.PL's plan your meetings wisely and good luck.

Sea Scouts going bald???

I was jus browsing through the Friendster bulletin board and I read an interesting article posted in it. So wad do u guys think?? Post your comments. (sorry for the bad English its jus a copy and paste article from friendster)

School students: ever since Mr.Latif recovered from his stroke, he has been getting worse than ever. Now, he and his "discipline" board are pushing for all free school boys to have their hair cut short, n I mean REALLY short... like 1.5cm. This is a violation of human rights. No one has the right to force others to cut their hair like that as long as our hair is according to regulation. I would like to see the teachers themselves with crew-cut hairstyles. lol.

Selection Day

The selection day for ctc 05 will be on the 16th of november 2005 at youth park.It starts from 9-5pm.The campfire competition consists of sketch, dance and advertistment.Duration for sketch and advertistment is around 6-10 minutes....for the dance,it has to be around 10 minutes. This selection day will be an open one. Those interested to come for the selection day pls do so.Currently, there's roughly 2 weeks to selection day....Good luck

Say What?!? Part 001

Say What?!? Part 001
Ok, I'm going to say upfront that this is NOT a competition or whatsoever but just for pure fun. Since this place is starting to collect cobwebs and dust, I'm doing my part to make this place at least a bit less 'DEAD'.

This is the first installment of a series of caption-making-just-for-fun-only what-you-call-it-thingy. Here, we try to put words into our GSM's mouth, in the most funny and creative way possible. No prizes but hopefully lots of laughs. :)

~Visit to the Archive Room~

On Tuesday 23rd August, I and 4 scouts visited the Archive Room. They were ATL Gajen and 3 Senior Scouts, Kel and Ka-yin and Kwok Tjun. I wished more people had turned up as I wanted to set up the OC for the 45th Anniversary Cum Reunion Dinner and wanted to have a meeting concerning it but the Chairman did not attend also.

The main purpose of this visit was to look back on the history of our troop. We also wanted to collect information about the troop and also want to take down the names of EXCO from their respective terms. So we could keep in touch with them and keep them updated.

The Results Of The AGM 2005

The AGM started with the usual tradition of breaking the Flag and there was a slight drizzle. This year there was no drilling which was a surprise to everyone. The reading of the minutes of the AGM 2004 was read by the Secretary ATL Ng Kok Kwan. Then TL Alvin Tang gave his Troop Leader's Report. Later each Office Bearers gave thier annual report which is as usual yada..yada...yada.... the usual boring stuff lerrr.. zzZZzzzZZZ.

After that.. there was a different agenda which is the reading of the new Constitution. *will write more bout it later in a new post* The Constitution is the guidelines on how to handle the troop and etc etc.

The Amazing Troop Leader Race

It is very likely to be a three horse race between the current Prob. ATLs - Bernard Tan Ooi Keat and Lim Ming Yeng, and Prob. VUL Gajendheran a/l Nadaesan.

Bernard is the current holder of the Best Patrol Leader Challenge Trophy which he won during CTC04. There's no doubt his leadership skills played a role in him landing that challenge trophy along with numeral other trophies and would prove to be a tough cookie to beat. He's also known to be very smooth with the ladies ( if that is taken into account).

AGM 2005

It's that time of the year again. Hands shaking, knees knocking...you can't eat, you can't sleep, you start losing hair! Ok, maybe not so graphic but you get the idea. It's 'election time' for 8th South (minus the election but still full of jostling for posts) in which a new lineup of leaders will soon take over at the helm. Who will be the next Troop Leader for 8th Georgetown (South)? (cue music from American Idol)

Catch the action....LIVE and exclusive only at the time and venue listed below!
Date: 20th August 2005
Time: 0800hrs - 1230hrs
Venue: PFS Lecture Theatre
Attire: FSSU (Full Sea Scout Uniform)

Backwoodsman Inter Patrol Competition

Attention all sea scouts!!! This week we are gonna have our first and hopefully not the last Inter Patrol Competition of the year which is the Backwoodsman Cooking. Its bout time for u guys to show ur skills and see whose is the Iron Chef of 8gts. So whose gonna dominate this year's backwoodsman??? Will it be the [V]enturez??? or the Junior Patrols Dolphin or Otter or Beaver?? Who will continue the legend of PL Rishi from Pengu with his mighty kerang.. lol.... Whose gonna produce more smokes...8gts or 7gts??? We will find out soon enough.
Date: 13th August 2005
Time: 0800hrs - 1230hrs
Venue: UMP (Usual Meeting Place)
Attire: Full Mufti

Attention all current and former sea scouts. Planning has started for organising 8th Georgetown (South)'s 45th Aniversary cum Reunion Dinner in 2006. The date and venue has yet to be decided. Tentatively, we plan to hold it at a hotel/restaurant/mamak stall. It will probably be a semi-formal sit-down dinner (poolside anyone?). There will be performances, exhibitions on various aspects of the troop, strip dancing, swimsuit contest, pole dancing and lots more. We would like your full support in making this grand event a success. We would like to make contact with all the ex-scouts. Please leave your email and contact number with Daniel Phoon. For more information you can email him or call 0164987383.

Also, we would like you to have your say concerning this event. Please leave your comments after the post. (beep?)
