Since Coronation Camp has been taken over by the Penang Botanical Gardens, the scouts in Penang have been without a proper area for their camping activities. Looks like the previous designated site at Teluk Bahang has been shelved and the search for a new camping ground is now back on with Seberang Prai as a new suggestion.
Looking for new campsiteWith Penang island starved for land, it wouldn't surprise me if it did end up on the mainland.
THE state government is searching for a new campsite for Penang Scouts to carry out their activities.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said he had directed state Tourism Development and Environment Committee chairman Teng Chang Yeow to start looking for a suitable site.
"The new campsite might be near the valleys and hills of Teluk Bahang or even in Seberang Prai. We have just yet to finalise the details," he said when attending the 2007 Scouts' Awards ceremony in Penang yesterday.
The guest of honour was Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas.
Dr Koh said that although the state government had previously selected a site in Teluk Bahang as the new campsite for Scouts, the land was later gazetted as the Penang National Park.
"Now, we are working hard to look for an alternative site for Scouts," he said.
The previous Scouts campsite was located at the Coronation Camp on Jalan Kebun Bunga, near the Penang Botanic Gardens.
