~Visit to the Archive Room~

Permalink | Email to friend

On Tuesday 23rd August, I and 4 scouts visited the Archive Room. They were ATL Gajen and 3 Senior Scouts, Kel and Ka-yin and Kwok Tjun. I wished more people had turned up as I wanted to set up the OC for the 45th Anniversary Cum Reunion Dinner and wanted to have a meeting concerning it but the Chairman did not attend also.

The main purpose of this visit was to look back on the history of our troop. We also wanted to collect information about the troop and also want to take down the names of EXCO from their respective terms. So we could keep in touch with them and keep them updated.

Luckily ATL Gajen is a member of the Board Of Archive and is one of the directors. This helps to lessen our burden. We brought digital cameras so we can take photos which made it easier.*the digicam was kshern idea.. lol..*

We got a lot of information and I am still in the process of compiling it. I was really amazed as I saw familiar names. We found a scouting journal called *Scouting Herald*. I wonder why they stop publishing it. It was really a creative idea that time. I was proud to see the achievement our troop had that time and the unity of the scouts in PFS.

Did you guys know we had our own Sea Scout Den in Kelawei Road (near gurney) before the move to our own Scout Den (which is very *good condition*) in our school. That time we had 11 fleets of canoes if I am not wrong. I remember there was a part I wrote down from the magazine which says *7 Ventures spent 3 enjoyable days canoeing around the island, while 6 Sea Scouts followed by bicycles!!*.

That was just part of what we the information we collected. We were there around 2hours and we got so many info.*not to forget 2 Senior Scouts came halfway and chao go play dota* I hope to put more in but I gotta go for now. Just leave your comments and email me if you people got any enquiries.

*There will be another visit to the Archive Room around next week (not yet confirmed when.. come back to check the website or contact me), and we would appreciate it if more people would help out.. and ATTENDANCE IS COMPULSORY (just joking) but we do need more hands*

The Results Of The AGM 2005

Permalink | Email to friend

The AGM started with the usual tradition of breaking the Flag and there was a slight drizzle. This year there was no drilling which was a surprise to everyone. The reading of the minutes of the AGM 2004 was read by the Secretary ATL Ng Kok Kwan. Then TL Alvin Tang gave his Troop Leader's Report. Later each Office Bearers gave thier annual report which is as usual yada..yada...yada.... the usual boring stuff lerrr.. zzZZzzzZZZ.

After that.. there was a different agenda which is the reading of the new Constitution. *will write more bout it later in a new post* The Constitution is the guidelines on how to handle the troop and etc etc.

The time has come for the most important part of the AGM(drumroll please....), the part which everyone is waiting for, the Appointment of the New Office Bearers and the Appointment of the New Leaders. The new TL .... for the term 2005/2006 is..... *everyone's at the end of their seats*.... TL..... *everyone's lsitening attentively.. to the announcement by the outgoing TL* Troop Leader Lim Ming Yeng. Later, the outgoing EXCO changes place with the new incoming EXCO.

The new Troop Leader, TL Matt Lim gave an outline of the troop's future plans and administration. ASSL Simon Loh started to question the outgoing EXCO's bout their year and gave his encouragement to the juniors to strive harder. The ex-TL Alvin Tang voiced out about the 45th Anniversary Cum Reunion Dinner event. He suggesteed to have a Organizing Committee for the event and TL Matt Lim should head the O.C. Besides that, the ex-TL also asked the Caonoe Master ATL Bernard Tan bout the future plans for the canoes (which already deteriorating) as he said we already have the blueprints. He also suggested to the PDC VUL Daniel Phoon not to just attend for duties but also volunteer to do charity at the old folks home etc etc as it will improve our image to the public.

After that, all members proceded back to the field for the Troop Investiture Ceremony. The handing over the tags and cord were done. Then we were dismissed and the part which all Seniors and Venturez.. the f3 f4 f5 have been waitin for which is the ***** show and throwin them into the pond. A lot of ppl were there wathcing the "free show" and there was a change as a PL was also a victim.. who is the PL which was none other than the great PL Jordan Lee. The AGM adjourned at around 1230hours.

The Amazing Troop Leader Race

Permalink | Email to friend

It is very likely to be a three horse race between the current Prob. ATLs - Bernard Tan Ooi Keat and Lim Ming Yeng, and Prob. VUL Gajendheran a/l Nadaesan.

Bernard is the current holder of the Best Patrol Leader Challenge Trophy which he won during CTC04. There's no doubt his leadership skills played a role in him landing that challenge trophy along with numeral other trophies and would prove to be a tough cookie to beat. He's also known to be very smooth with the ladies ( if that is taken into account).

Don't let the cool and quiet exterior fool you. There's definitely more than meets the eye for this somewhat diminutive contender - Ming Yeng. Being a school prefect, he must have his advantages and so far, he's holding his cards closely to his chest. Could he be holding all the aces? Like the saying goes - diam-diam ubi berisi!

We surely cannot discount Gajendheran from the race. Although he's not currently a Prob. ATL, he seems to possess the qualities that could sway support his way. Known to be a studious person and also a school prefect, his dedication to the Troop has never waned. Although the occurrence of a Prob. VUL being appointed as the Troop Leader doesn't seem likely, it doesn't however mean it is not a possibility! Could he appear to be the dark horse after all? (No pun intended)

Of course, there are always the outsiders (or pretenders) who would lay claim to the right of office. Would one of the Form 3 Senior Scouts, against all odds and what is fundamentally right, be chosen to takeover office? Would the outgoing TL - Alvin Tang declare himself TL-for-Life? Would the popular ATL Phuah Wen Hoong steal the post from under their noses after missing his chance last year? Would the ASSL - Simon Loh sacrifice everything to help revive the Troop by reinstating himself as TL? Would Ah Seng (Mr. Lim Ah Seng) try his hand at being both GSM and TL? Would Boo Soon Yew miss scouting so much that he comes back for another stint as TL? How about ATL of the Century - Ong Teong Khuan? Would he finally get his chance? Could this really be his year? Lest we forget, the TL of the Millennium - Andy Tai Khing Khoon! Who can count him out of the race? He is after all THE Troop Leader of the Millennium, you know.

So, come one, come all. Place your bets now. Who will be the next Troop Leader of 8th Georgetown (South)? August 20th is the next pit stop for this leg of the race. Who will be the first to arrive? Who will be eliminated? Stay tuned to find out!

It's 'election time' for 8th South (minus the election but still full of jostling for posts) in which a new lineup of leaders will soon take over at the helm. Who will be the next Troop Leader for 8th Georgetown (South)? (cue music from American Idol)

Attention all current and former sea scouts. Planning has started for organising 8th Georgetown (South)'s 45th Aniversary cum Reunion Dinner in 2006. The date and venue has yet to be decided. Tentatively, we plan to hold it at a hotel/restaurant/mamak stall. It will probably be a semi-formal sit-down dinner (poolside anyone?). There will be performances, exhibitions on various aspects of the troop, strip dancing, swimsuit contest, pole dancing and lots more. We would like your full support in making this grand event a success. We would like to make contact with all the ex-scouts. Please leave your email and contact number with Daniel Phoon. For more information you can email him or call 0164987383.

Also, we would like you to have your say concerning this event. Please leave your comments after the post. (beep?)
